The Scotch Whisky Shop

The Whisky Shop is an Aladdin’s cave for whisky lovers, with over 500 different derivations of Scotch whisky for sale!

The shop is housed in the former Castlehill Primary school. The listed building offers full accessibility for those with limited mobility.

The tour is fully accessible for wheelchair users, the tour includes a barrel ride through the production of Scotch whisky and a sensory experience within The Sense of Scotland Room.

With 18 languages currently available on the silver tour, with a further two to be added shortly (British and American sign language), the attraction welcomes visitors worldwide. There is hearing loop technology throughout the building, and tour scripts and menus are available in large print.

Our tour guides explain the five whisky-producing regions of Scotland and visitors can enjoy an 180⁰ film showing the different regions and learn how the geography and weather influence the flavour of the whisky.

Visitors are then introduced to the art of blending in a recreated 19th century Blender’s Sample Room.

Guests are taken back to 1870 and the birth of blending in Edinburgh, delving into both the history and alchemy; learning about the art of creating some of the most famous whiskies in the world.

The tour ends with viewing The World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky. Visitors can marvel at the stunning array of nearly 3500 bottles.

The guide then takes guests through the five steps to appreciating Scotch whisky and then they can sample their chosen dram!

The silver tour is priced at £15 per person and includes the tour, a crystal whisky tasting glass to take home and the audio guide if required. Carers are admitted free of charge and guide dogs are welcome.
